Gadsden sports park cuts ribbon for next phase of project

GADSDEN, Ala. (WBRC) – City and community leaders cut the ribbon at the Gadsden Sports Park. The groundbreaking is the next phase of development at the site.

Now that Phase Three of this project is near completion and ahead of schedule, city leaders in Gadsden wasted no time beginning phase IV of this project.

Gadsden Mayor Craig Ford and city leaders in Gadsden attended a ribbon cutting ceremony at The Champions Field today. Located behind Gadsden State Community College, this multipurpose facility is fully accessible for everyone including people with special needs.

The groundbreaking of the complex will include two youth baseball/softball fields, additional pickleball courts and the renovation of existing youth soccer fields. This is a multi-year project by the City of Gadsden that started in 2020.

Gadsden Mayor Craig Ford says, “The best part of this is some of the first pickle ball courts that were open to the public opened here in the city of Gadsden, it opened up four and within the next year we’ll have over twenty.”

Gadsden State President Dr. Kathy Murphy says, “Big deal that you have to come through our campus to come down to the sports complex. We’re hoping that this is going to give a real presence to our campus.”

Mayor Ford says this project will be close to $8-million dollars once completed.

The completion date is set for August of this year.
