Galaxy smartphones eligible for six years of software updates

Samsung has done something incredible for customers who purchase mid-range Galaxy phones: the company will now provide software updates to mid-range phones for six years.

In early 2024, Samsung announced its policy of seven years of software updates for all flagship phones. Fans wondered at the time if the extended update policy would ever apply to mid-range phones. With the launch of the Galaxy A16 5G, we got the answer.

The Galaxy A16 5G will get six major Android OS upgrades and all the One UI versions in between. That’s just one fewer Android OS upgrade than what the flagships get, and it is super impressive. Samsung will also provide security updates for six years.

Considering the affordable nature of the Galaxy A1x lineup of phones, if the A16 5G is eligible for six years of updates, we can safely assume that will be the case for most mid-range Samsung phones launching in the future. Costlier mid-rangers, like those in the Galaxy A5x lineup, might even get updates for seven years, though that is speculation until Samsung confirms it.

Galaxy smartphones that will get software updates for six years

To help you keep track of which Galaxy smartphones are eligible to get updates for six years, we have created the following list.

Will Samsung offer the same support for existing mid-range devices launched before the Galaxy A16 5G? It’s unlikely, as the company isn’t offering seven years of updates for flagships launched before the Galaxy S24 series.

We will update the list above every time a new device is launched and is eligible for six years of updates, so be sure to bookmark this page and follow us on X/Twitter, Instagram, and other social media channels.
