Galaxy Watch 4 starts getting Wear OS 5 update – how many more will it get?
Samsung is rolling out its One UI 6 Watch update to older generations of the Galaxy Watch, with the company’s very first Wear OS smartwatch, the Galaxy Watch 4, now getting the update in one region.
The Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic, first released in 2021, were Samsung’s first Wear OS smartwatches. The company has since released three more generations, but software support shows no sign of slowing on those initial models.
This week, Samsung has started rolling out Wear OS 5 as a part of the One UI 6 Watch upgrade for Galaxy Watch 4. The update was spotted by users in Korea, but it seems to only be live in that one region.
Other countries are likely due to follow in the coming days.
Galaxy Watch 4 started out on Wear OS 3, later being upgraded to Wear OS 4 in 2023. This latest update is the third major one, opening the question of whether or not this will be the last major update for the smartwatch. The answer to that is likely no, as Samsung previously said the Galaxy Watch 4 series would get “up to” four years of updates. By that timeline, next year’s Wear OS 5.1 update is likely to be the Watch 4’s final major update.
