Gambler Suffers Heart Attack After $4 Million Jackpot

A man gambling at a Singapore casino on June 22 scored a $4 million jackpot and then suffered a heart attack after celebrating the win with some fist pumps. The man was playing at Marina Bay Sands Casino and a video of the incident shows the man on the floor after his win.

The jackpot winner apparently underwent cardiac arrest from the excitement, according to media reports, and staff members quickly moved in to help.

Media reports differed initially as to whether he remained alive after the incident. Some posts on Twitter said that the man died on site, but those conjectures look to be mistaken.

“He was quickly rushed to hospital and is still recovering before he is set to return to the casino to cash in his chips,” The Sun reported of the incident.

A video of the incident has garnered tens of thousands of views online. A woman, who appeared to be accompanying the man on the casino trip, can be seen asking for help. Other gamblers then gather around in a panic as the man is sprawled on the floor.

This isn’t the first time a jackpot winner has suffered a major medical event. In 2002, a 61-year-old gambler at Harrah’s in Atlantic City died of a heart attack just after staff handed the man a check for a slot jackpot of about $10,000. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

In 2014 in the United Kingdom, a bingo game continued despite one of the players collapsing from a heart attack. In 2018, an Oklahoma poker player died from a heart attack during a tournament at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Tulsa.
