Gambling employee survey: 20% of workers embarrassed to be in the industry

The survey, sent exclusively to Gambling Insider, covered topics such as employee priorities, satisfaction with pay and whether they’d recommend the industry to others.

Engage Health Group has published the results of its latest gambling industry employee survey.

The survey was conducted earlier this year from 250 gambling industry employees from across the UK.

Out of all the respondents, 25% reported feeling happy in their job, 48% were satisfied and 13% didn’t feel strongly either way.

While 72% of employees would recommend their employer to friends or family, only 41% felt proud to be working in the gambling industry as a whole – 20% of employees actually felt embarrassed about it.

Logifuture Chief People and Talent Officer, Marvin Cuschieri, said: “I do understand that some people have some form of discomfort of being associated with the sector.

“In my case, being Maltese and working from Malta where a good chunk of the economy is based on gambling activities, there is no particular stigma associated with the sector.

“This might not be the case for a candidate or employee who comes from a market which has limited or no exposure to the industry.”

In terms of pay, 40% felt that their pay was better than that offered by other industries, 33% believed it to be about the same and only 15% suspected it to be worse.

When it came to employee benefits, 50% of workers reported that health insurance was the most important factor, followed by life insurance.

This was also reflected in the employee life priorities section, where 42% reported that their personal health was their first priority, followed by 14% with family health and 7% with financial security.

A total of 6% of gambling industry employees reported that their pets were their number one priority in life.

In other CSR news, The Flutter Foundation has launched in Spain with the aim of addressing inequality and social challenges through initiatives in education, entrepreneurship, technological development, sports promotion and employability improvement.
