Asus TUF Gaming VG279QM1A for $199

Coming in with a 240Hz refresh rate – or a rip-roaring 280Hz built in overclock – the Asus TUF VG279QM1A has a whole lot going for it. It may be a little big for 1080p gaming at 27 inches, corner to corner, but Asus makes up for this with superb G-Sync compatibility, as well as great viewing angles and color reproduction thanks to the fantastic IPS panel. The design is a little understated, with a “quarter-inch bezel around the edges and a mostly-unadorned stand,” but it’s clear why the VG279QM1A scored a 9/10 in our review.

If you want to lean into speed with a smashing response time and overclockable refresh, the VG279QM is only $199 right now for Prime day, down from its usual $259 price tag. That’s a 23% discount for a mini monster.

As an alternative, you could go big with the 28-inch, 4K version of the same Asus TUF gaming monitor. That way you get a sharper picture with the tradeoff being a refresh rate locked to 60Hz, and a 5ms response time. That’s more than enough speed for your average RPG, and since this is already one of the best budget gaming monitors in the 4K resolution class, that $219 discount price tag (over the usual $309) makes it well worth a look.

If that sounds like a little too much, the other option is to stick with 1080p resolution, but go a tad smaller with a 24-inch gaming monitor, and a 165Hz refresh rate instead. The Asus VG248QG is one of the best G-Sync monitors with FreeSync compatibility too, and at just $129 against the standard $189 it’s certainly worth considering if you believe that size doesn’t matter.

Asus ROG Strix XG32UQ for $599

With very little to complain about, the Asus ROG Strix XG32UQ is one of the best 4K gaming monitors out there. We’re talking 160Hz refresh rate (overclocked) on a sharp-as-anything 32-inch gaming panel, with a 1ms response time to boot. Right now, it’s down from $869 for Prime Day.

The HDR and black levels leave a little to be desired, but otherwise this monitor aces gaming performance, especially for fast, online multiplayer games. And with a massive $270 discount, it’s well worth a look if you want to go all out.

Gigabyte M28U for $399.99

Another of the best 4K gaming monitors here, the Gigabyte M28U marries speedy 1ms response times with 144Hz refresh rates in a 28-inch gaming panel. And with superb sharpness, great connectivity and a good level of color accuracy going for it, there’s not much bad I can say about it.

The main thing to consider is whether you’ll be using the Gigabyte M28U in a bright room, as it can look a little dim with only 300 nits sustained brightness. If that’s no issue, you could nab the Gigabyte M28U for just $399.99 for Prime Day, that’s 33% off the usual price, which sits closer to $600.

Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 for $1,599.99

Prepare yourself for 57 inches of curved QLED bliss. Packed into this super-ultrawide gaming monitor, you’re looking at great HDR, great contrast especially against its predecessor, and “excellent motion clarity at a variety of refresh rates” up to 240Hz, says the review. The Odyssey offers precise backlight control which “improves contrast, brings big gains to HDR brightness, and eliminates the dreaded edge-lit glow common to gaming monitors,” though it can also lead to some image quality issues.

That said, the only other big issue is the Odyssey’s usual price tag of $2,500. But with $900 off, this behemoth gaming monitor is now it its lowest price ever for Amazon Prime Day.

Alternatively, grab yourself the crisp OLED version of the Odyssey, with the same 240Hz refresh but a far smaller 49-inch panel. There’s very little to complain about it otherwise, and when this version is just $1,000 for Prime Day – down from its usual $1,600 price tag – it’s worth considering over its silly-wide sibling.
