Gautier leaders approve over $7 million in bonds for city infrastructure projects
GAUTIER, Miss. (WLOX) – Gautier city leaders are taking on more than $7 million in bonds to address infrastructure issues.
During a council meeting Tuesday evening, the city council approved $7.3 million in bonds for water, sewage, drainage, and roadwork projects.
The first bond is worth $2 million and is a general fund bond. This money will be used to make improvements to the town center and town commons, remove older structures and better lighting will also be installed along Highway 90.
The second bond is a $5.3 million revenue bond. This money will be used to renovate lift stations, rebuild dilapidated drainage structures, and improve water treatment.
“We’re committed to making sure our infrastructure stays good and solid for them so they do not have to deal with issues that we see across the U.S. today,” Gautier Mayor Casey Vaughan said. “We are committed to having a good system here, making sure our infrastructure is functioning properly and taken care of.”
The general fund bond will be paid for through the general fund budget of the city, while the revenue bond will be paid for by use tax, or online sales tax generated by the city.
Mayor Vaughan insists no tax increase is being discussed to cover these bonds and says the extra use tax funds can cover paving projects in the city.
