Up until now, when you summoned Gemini on your Galaxy smartphone or tablet when it was locked, the digital assistant could carry out only certain basic commands, including those for controlling alarms and timers and playing and pausing music.Summarize in one-click with Galaxy AI
If you asked Gemini to do anything else, it would prompt you to unlock your device. For example, if you asked the digital assistant how the weather was or tried to have a general conversation with it, the chatbot would prompt you to unlock your phone. Well, not anymore.
Google app for Android gets ‘Gemini on lock screen’ option
Google has started rolling out a new option called ‘Gemini on lock screen’ under Gemini settings in the Google app. Once you go into it and enable the feature, Gemini will be able to answer general questions even when your Samsung smartphone or tablet is locked.
With this feature, when your Galaxy smartphone or tablet is locked and you summon Gemini and ask it anything, the digital assistant will open in full screen and give you an answer to your question. If you tap anywhere on the screen, such as the text input box, microphone icon, or camera icon, Gemini will ask you to unlock the device.

We noticed the new feature in version 15.27.37.28.arm64 of the Google app on our Galaxy S23. However, we couldn’t find the ‘Gemini on lock screen’ option in the same version of the app on our Galaxy S24. So, it looks like Google is rolling out the feature in phases. With the new feature, Gemini is now one step closer to replacing Assistant.
