Gen Z is at the forefront of the all-inclusives comeback

Meagan Drillinger

History really does repeat itself. We’ve all seen the steady stream of TV reboots that we never asked for but somehow all end up watching. Only this time, instead of another “Full House” revival, Gen Z is reviving the all-inclusive resort trend. According to Hotels.com’s Unpack ’25 travel trends report, 42% of Gen Z travelers now prefer all-inclusive stays, with searches for these resorts up 60% year over year. But unlike those awkward TV reboots, this comeback is sleek, sophisticated and seriously upgraded — especially in Mexico, where all-inclusive resorts have been leading the charge and transforming the landscape for years.

The all-inclusive glow-up

Gone are the days of bland buffets and crowded pools. They’ve been gone for quite a while, actually. For years, all-inclusive brands have been reinventing themselves, transforming into luxury havens that blend convenience with world-class amenities. Hotel Mousai, for example, is leading the charge with its chic, adults-only vibe. After making waves in Puerto Vallarta, the brand recently opened a new resort in Cancun, offering trendy rooftop pools, gourmet dining and a cutting-edge design that’s Instagram-ready for Gen Z travelers looking for exclusive experiences.

Grand Velas is another game-changer. The Riviera Maya property and newer Los Cabos resort boasts Cocina de Autor, a Michelin-starred restaurant that serves innovative, avant-garde cuisine, shattering the myth that all-inclusive food is mediocre at best. It’s a foodie paradise that draws travelers who want a dining experience as memorable as their vacation.

And let’s not forget Hoteles Xcaret, which has turned the all-inclusive model on its head by including access to its adventure-filled ecoparks. From ziplining to snorkeling and exploring Mayan ruins, guests have a front-row seat to nature, culture and adrenaline — all included. Their “all-fun inclusive” approach offers Gen Z the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation without worrying about extra costs.

Why Gen Z is hooked

The appeal for Gen Z boils down to one thing: simplicity. With 41% of Gen Z travelers citing minimal stress as their top reason for choosing all-inclusives, it’s clear that this generation wants to relax without any hassle. The upfront pricing — covering meals, drinks, activities and entertainment — makes it easy for them to enjoy their trip without constantly checking their bank accounts.

But it’s not just about convenience. Social media, especially TikTok, has heled to fuel the resurgence of all-inclusive resorts. The hashtag #allinclusive has blown up, racking up 538 million views in the past two years as Gen Z travelers share poolside views, gourmet meals and sun-soaked adventures that inspire others to jump on the bandwagon.

Mexico is leading the charge

Mexico’s all-inclusive resorts are perfectly positioned for this Gen Z travel boom. They’ve been hot on the heels of the latest innovations for nearly a decade, and the options are only getting swankier and more diverse. Whether it’s the cool, contemporary vibe of Hotel Mousai, the luxury and gastronomy of Grand Velas, or the adventure-packed offerings at Hoteles Xcaret, these resorts have successfully reinvented themselves to meet the tastes of a new generation.
So while TV reboots might keep trying to relive the past, the resurgence of all-inclusive resorts is more than just a nostalgic nod in Mexico — it’s an evolution. For Gen Z travelers, all-inclusives are now the go-to for luxury and ease, and Mexico is a leading destination.
