General Motors reveals revolutionary Corvette ZR1 at Bowling Green Assembly

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) – History was made today at the Bowling Green Assembly, as what is said to be the most powerful Corvette in history was revealed this morning.

“Other supercars should be very worried right now because this car puts all of the competition in the rear-view mirror for sure,” said Plant Director for the Bowling Green Assembly Ray Theriault.

The Corvette ZR1 has many qualities that make it unique, including 1064 horsepower, the most ever seen in a Corvette before.

“To put 1000 horsepower into perspective, most of the drag racing and high-performance cars that you might see at Beach Bend Raceway might have 1000 horsepower on them. This car is capable of less than 10 second quarter mile times,” said PBC Manufacturing Engineer for General Motors Brad Daughenbaugh. “People built, purpose-built drag racing cars to be able to achieve speeds like that. This engine propels this car to see speeds that are in excess of 215 miles an hour.”

The car also has a split window, is convertible, contains a turbo that spins 1.7x times the speed of sound, and has a carbon fiber wing.

“It screams speed, it’s going to do amazing things for the performance of this vehicle,” said Plant Launch Operations Manager Ryan Trammel, when discussing the wing during the reveal.

Higher-ups at the Corvette Plant credit the workers at Bowling Green Assembly, saying this project would not have been possible without them.

“It’s been years in the making. All the options on here are cutting-edge. I’m just proud of my guys for making it happen,” said President of UAW 2164 Charles Laster.

The reveal of the Corvette ZR1 is one step closer to plant tours returning, but they are still currently closed.
