Georgia QB Carson Beck likely out for the Allstate Sugar Bowl, CBS Sports reports

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – Starting University of Georgia quarterback Carson Beck’s collegiate playing career could soon be over.

Beck – who had entered his senior season at UGA with hopes of winning a national championship and the Heisman Trophy – will likely miss the Allstate Sugar Bowl on Jan 1, 2025, CBS Sports reports.

Beck is reportedly exploring surgery options, CBS Sports reported.

On Monday, Georgia head football coach Kirby Smart confirmed Beck suffered an elbow injury at the end of the first half of Saturday’s Southeastern Conference Championship (SEC) game. The university said Beck and his family are exploring treatment options and there is no current timetable on his return.

Smart also said punter Brett Thorson sustained a knee injury to his non-kicking leg in Saturday’s contest and will require season-ending surgery.

“Carson and Brett are both fierce competitors and extremely hard workers,” Smart said Monday. “I’m confident they will attack their rehab with the same determination they exhibit in their daily habits. We will be here to support them every step of the way.”

Beck missed the entire second half and only came back in on what became the game’s final play, a hand-off to running back Trevor Etienne, who scored the game-winning touchdown.

Beck’s replacement, Gunner Stockton, helped lead the Bulldogs to a 22-19 overtime win, securing Smart’s third SEC championship. Stockton went 12 for 16 for 71 yards, no touchdowns and one interception before taking a huge hit toward the end of the first overtime and leaving the field.

The Bulldogs’ win gave them a first-round bye in the College Football Playoff (CFP). No. 2-ranked UGA will play the winner of the CFP first-round game between No. 10 Indiana and No. 7 Notre Dame.
