Gisele Bündchen’s arms are so strong thanks to *this* workout

If you saw *those* photos of Gisele Bündchen leaving the gym in mid-September with shredded arms and wondered how she’s been training these days, you’re not alone.

While the Gaia Herbs ambassador, 43, is known for practicing yoga and jiu-jitsu, she’s also recently added a new type of movement into the mix.

‘Our body is our temple, our home, the place we’ve been given’, Gisele said at a Gaia Herbs event panel in New York City on 15 Sep. ‘We get to experience this amazing planet we live in.’

Gisele is extremely grateful for her body after a scare in her early twenties due to her unhealthy habits. She used to wake up each morning and smoke two cigarettes and drink a Mocha Frappuccino, then end the day with red wine when she couldn’t fall asleep. That resulted in her adrenal glands shutting down, Gisele explained at the panel.

Fortunately, she was able to change her diet, quit smoking, and begin implementing exercise, like jogging, plus breath work each morning. So, when it comes to living life to its fullest, Gisele might as well be an expert.

Women’s Health sat down with the supermodel and got all the details on her workout routine and fitting it into her busy lifestyle.

Gisele starts and ends her day with movement

‘Moving is just part of my every day,’ she tells WH. Each morning, Gisele wakes up at 5 a.m. and meditates, then goes for a light jog with her dog, which usually racks up just under 5k. After, she does another morning workout, which is sometimes yoga.

At night, Gisele walks her dog again, and loves doing it after dinner because it helps her sleep. This time with her dog is one of Gisele’s non-negotiables—rain or shine, they move together. ‘Walking is underestimated’, she tells WH. ‘That’s great for me and great for him.’

She’s a longtime lover of yoga and jiu-jitsu

Gisele has been practicing yoga and breath work since her early twenties, a habit she implemented after her health wake-up call.

‘Everything changed’ after she began those habits, she said at the panel. ‘I got a better life.’ Of course, Gisele is also big into jiu-jitsu, a form of martial arts based on self-defence moves. She practices that three times a week.

But she prioritises recovery as well. ‘Because I’m very intense and I go hard, the rest is extremely important’, Gisele says.

Gisele recently started weightlifting

It seems like the entire fitness industry has been talking about the important of strength training over the past year, and Gisele is no exception. While she’s practised yoga since her twenties, she recently added weights into the mix a few months ago.

These days, Gisele strength trains three days a week. ‘It just helps you feel stronger,’ she says.

Most of the time, she prefers lifting 4.5 kg or less and increasing repetitions. But sometimes, she lifts 11.3 kg and does less reps.

She enjoys working out outdoors

Outside of strength training, yoga, and jiu-jitsu, Gisele also paddleboards or kayaks during the week.

‘I always want to make sure that every day, I’m doing something in nature’, she says. She also likes to think of herself as an adventurer, and enjoys horseback riding, surfing, and skydiving too.

On busy days, she squeezes in a five-minute stretch

Even Gisele gets overbooked with back-to-back Zoom meetings. So, she sets an alarm on her phone every hour so she can stretch for five minutes. During those short breaks, she loves doing downward dog or a sun salutation. ‘Otherwise, you get so stiff,’she says.

Well, it seems that Gisele is a master at getting movement in, even on her most jam-packed days. She’s still discovering different types of exercise to enjoy and better herself with, and that can definitely be motivation for all of us.
