Global Fashion Summit to be held in China next month

Organised by the Global Fashion Agenda (GFA) in collaboration with Chinamind NEXT, the Global Fashion Summit: Shanghai Gala aims to bring together global and local fashion leaders to discuss sustainability and promote collaboration in the world’s largest apparel export market.

Originally launched in Copenhagen in 2009, the Global Fashion Summit has become a platform for addressing environmental, social, and ethical issues in the fashion industry.

The Shanghai edition will expand on its theme from the 2024 Copenhagen Summit, “Unlocking The Next Level,” which focuses on collaborative action and data-driven progress to address the industry’s sustainability challenges.

China is seen as crucial to driving sustainable transformation in fashion it remains the world’s largest exporter of ready-made garments with a 31.6% market share and exports totalling $165bn in 2023.

The summit in Shanghai aims to foster partnerships, address environmental and social concerns, and promote solutions across the industry.

The gala dinner will set the scene ahead of GFA’s participation in CIIE (China International Import Expo) on 8 November 2024 – a forum known for its focus on sustainable innovation technology.

Marchionni emphasised the importance of the summit in mobilising global fashion alliances, noting that it will be a foundation for future sustainability efforts in China.

Chinamind NEXT’s CEO Lynn Fu highlighted China’s dominant role in the global apparel market and added: “We are confident that the Global Fashion Summit held in Shanghai in collaboration with GFA will open up further opportunities for Chinese enterprises to expand internationally, for international brands to establish a stronger presence in the Chinese market, for the strategic investment of patient capital, and for the establishment of a shared vision of sustainability between the East and the West.”
