St. Louis-based GoJet Airlines has been awarded a 145 maintenance certification from the Federal Aviation Administration.
The certification will allow the regional carrier to provide maintenance services to all airlines that fly into and out of St. Louis Lambert International Airport. GoJet CEO Rick Leach told radio station KMOX they already do a lot of heavy maintenance work.
“Unlike most regional (airlines), we brought our heavy work inside to do internally instead of contracting it out to other – what they call – MRO’s, maintenance and repair overhaul facilities to do their work,” Leach said. “We do it all.”
The company will be adding about 150 jobs and will be able to repair, renovate, and overhaul any passenger jet from any airline.
“The majority of these jobs will be what we call A&P mechanics,” Leach said. “It’s a licensed mechanic and airframe and powerplant is what that means – it’s a licensed designation of a highly skilled maintenance technician. The majority of those will be those jobs, and they’re good high paying jobs.”
Leach also said about 20% of the new jobs will be part of an apprentice program to train new airframe mechanics.
GoJet provides regional passenger service through United Airlines, with flight crews based at Lambert Airport, Chicago’s O’Hare, Washington’s Dulles, and Newark International Airport in New Jersey.
