LISBON — Lisbon senior Gage Owens took one for the team Tuesday.

Owens was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the 17th-seeded Blue Devils a 6-5 win over 27th-seeded Lowellville in a Division IV sectional opener at Allen Dickey Field.

Lisbon improves to 11-8 and will travel to 11th-seeded Maplewood at 5 p.m. Thursday for the sectional final.

Logan Sturgeon topped the Blue Devils with two RBIs and Ryan Carpenter and Marc Moore each scored two runs.

Lisbon managed only five hits, but drew seven walks. Sturgeon, Moore, Devin Kelly, Ryan Carpenter and Carter Oliver all had singles.

The Blue Devils scored single runs in the final three innings, while the Rockets countered with two runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 5-5.

Brady Carpenter’s pitching kept the Blue Devils in the game. He gave up five runs, four earned, on seven hits in 6 2/3 innings. He struck out 11 and walked three. Bryce Esarey got the win, pitching 1 1/3 inning of hitless relief with three strikeouts and two walks.

Lowellville took a quick 2-0 lead as two of the first three batters scored on Liam Bartlett’s single to center field.

Lisbon tied the game in the second inning as the Blue Devils scored on an Aiden Myers bunt and a Sturgeon single. The Blue Devils had runners on second and third with no outs, but three straight strikeouts ended the threat.

Lowellville went ahead 3-2 in the third inning as Kaden Primous led off with a single and eventually scored on a wild pitch.

The top of the Lowellville lineup did all the damage.

Primous, the leadoff hitter, and Tino Rivera-Ocasio each had two hits and scored two runs. Cleanup hitter Cody Nolfi also had two hits.

Liam Bartlett started for the Rockets and gave up five runs, three earned, in six innings. He gave up three hits with seven strikeouts and three walks.

Braylon Bolger gave up the final run on two hits with two strikeouts and four walks in 1 1/3 innings.

The Rockets finish the season at 6-13 after an 0-7 start.

Heartland 14,

Fairport Harding 1

UNITY — Drew Gault had a double, triple and five RBIs as No. 16 seeded Heartland ripped No. 29 seed Fairport Harding 14-1 in five innings in a Div. IV sectional opener on Tuesday.

Will Morgan added a double, triple and three RBIs. Tyler Rarick had a triple, single and an RBI. Brett Walker got the win as he went two innings while recording two strikeouts and five walks.

Heartland (10-13) will be at No. 12 seed Mapleton on Thursday for the sectional final.

Windham 13, Leetonia 1

LEETONIA — Windham’s Jack Eye no-hit Leetonia in a 13-1 five-inning Bomber win in a Div. IV sectional opener on Tuesday.

Tatum Finley took the loss for the Bears as he struck out one and walked five in four innings.

Leetonia was the 23rd seed.

Windham, the 24th seed, will travel to No. 13 seed Loudonville on Thursday.

New Philadelpia 10, East Liverpool 0

NEW PHILADELPHIA — No. 5 seed New Philadelphia eliminated No. 11 seed East Liverpool 10-0 in five innings on Tuesday in a Div. II sectional final contest.

Eli Suznevich had two hits for the Potters, 11-13.

Aaron Dieringer took the loss as he struck out two and walked one in three innings.

New Philadelphia will play No. 3 seed Steubenville at a neutral site on Monday.

Western Reserve 12, Southern 1

SALINEVILLE — No. 25 seed Southern Local came up short in a 12-1 five-inning loss to No. 28 seed Western Reserve on Tuesday in a Div. IV sectional opener.

Vance Story limited Southern to four hits, all singles. He struck out seven and walked two.

Brody Brown took the loss for the Indians as he struck out three and walked one in two innings.

Reserve will travel to No. 7 seed Dalton on Thursday for the sectional final.

Southington 11, Wellsville 1

SOUTHINGTON — Southington scored all its runs in the fourth inning to dump Wellsville 11-1 in five innings on Tuesday in a Div. IV sectional opener.

Tyler Landess took the loss for Wellsville as he struck out six and walked two in three innings.

Zavri Morris and A Watkins had hits for Wellsville, the 32nd seed.

No. 19 seed Southington will travel to No. 2 seed Warren JFK for the sectional final on Thursday.
