Google outage: App crashing for Android users worldwide, company says working on a fix – Times of India

Android users across the globe are facing issues with the Google app on their phones. Opening the Google app via the home screen icon is reportedly resulting in a crash. Google has acknowledged the issue and said that it is working on a fix.

According to the Google Search status web page, the incident began around 22:22 PT (10:52 am IST) on September 14. Google acknowledged the outage around 23:07 PT (11:30am).It then said “There’s an ongoing issue with serving in Google Search that’s affecting a large number of users searching on the Google app on Android. We’re working on identifying the root cause. Next update will be within 12 hours.”
While the company says that the issue with serving has been mitigated, it is still working on a fix.
“The issue with serving has been mitigated and our systems are becoming stable, but we’re still working on a fix. Affected users still experiencing issues on the Google App on Android may try to clear the app cache and the app data through the Settings app. Next update will be within 12 hours”, the company said.

What caused the outage

Google has not yet revealed the exact reason behind the outage. Labeled as ‘Incident affecting Serving, the webpage states that “Serving is experiencing an ongoing issue”.
According to Downdetector, 67% of the users reported issues with Google Search, while 30% faced issues with the website. A 3% users reported facing issues with the Google Maps.
