Google Releases Android 15 Beta 4.2 With A Slew of Fixes For Issues We Do Not Want To See In The Pixel 9 Series

The Made by Google event 2024, held yesterday, was the company’s biggest hardware event for the year. It entailed key product announcements and revolved around Gemini AI incorporation and advancement. While it followed a different theme from the Spring event, it involved the software update we sought. It has been almost a month since Android’s last scheduled update rolled out, and now we have the Android 15 Beta 4.2 update with some major fixes for Pixel devices.

Android 15 Beta 4.2 has rolled out with an array of fixes for more Pixel devices

Google is continuously improving its Android 15 build by periodically releasing iterations until the major launch. The latest updated beta is labeled Android 15 Beta 4.2 and comes with some minor bugs fixed. Although it is not considered a major release and maintains consistency with the earlier release, it does fix some major issues, especially with the camera features.

AP31.240617.015 marks the latest security patch and extends support for the following Pixel devices;

  • Pixel 6
  • Pixel 6a
  • Pixel 6 Pro
  • Pixel 7
  • Pixel 7a
  • Pixel 7 Pro
  • Pixel Tablet
  • Pixel Fold
  • Pixel 8
  • Pixel 8 Pro
  • Pixel 8a

The last security patch was rolled out in July, and issues related to phone calls were fixed. Now, the updated beta addresses the following issues:

  • Fixed YouTube app crashing
  • Fixed UI flickering
  • Fixed camera saturation
  • Fixed low frame rates
  • Fixed crashing issues when adjusting zoom levels
  • Fixed gray bar appearing when using the camera

It is important to note that if you are enrolled in the Android Beta program for Pixel devices, you will be offered the over-the-air (OTA) update to Beta 4.2.

For you to participate in the program, your device must be on the non-Developer Preview public stable build. The option to opt-out or switch back to the public Android version remains open, although this would clear all user data.

Google is working arduously to improve the Android 15 build, and with constant fixes and beta updates, we expect the official release to be near.
