Absent a federal abortion ban, Republicans are working to expand the reach of their states’ abortion bans. The latest effort involves Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton suing a New York doctor for prescribing abortion pills to a Texas resident. Additionally, a growing number of legislators in red states are seeking to enact abortion travel bans against women who travel out of state to obtain the procedure. Legal experts say these efforts could violate the constitutional right to interstate travel.
