Goshen business owner concerned over weekend shooting at shopping center
GOSHEN, Ind. (WSBT) — A 21-year-old was injured and a building damaged in a shooting incident in Goshen over the weekend.
The shooting happened at Peddlers village and police reported the building to be damaged.
To the naked eye the building seems to be okay, but police say there were two impact points.
The bigger concern for the businesses is the incident itself happening in their parking lot.
WSBT spoke with Francisco Ortega, the owner of Peddler’s Event Center which closes late.
He was in the building when the shooting happened.
“We were closed, I mean a happened right after 3 o’clock. We close at three …happen maybe five minutes after 3 o’clock. So, so we were inside when heard the gunshots and that’s pretty much,” said Francisco Ortega, Peddler’s Event Center.
He said that everyone became quiet and didn’t know how to react.
“Well, gunshots are not a good thing to hear and we just everyone kind of went quiet. When the shots were fired and that was it, and then when we come back and when we went out you know five minutes later, police were there already doing their job,” said Ortega.
Ortega said an incident like this has never happened to Peddlers Village Shopping Center, and he is concerned for his business.
“Am I concerned about me and my business? of course I am, but hopefully that’ll never happen again,” said Ortega.
Despite Francisco’s concerns, other business owners don’t feel the same.
Several business owners in the Peddler’s Village strip mall along with the property owner say that they are not concerned over the incident.
People on social media expressed their concerns over violence becoming more prevalent in Goshen.
“No, this is we don’t see this all the time in Goshen not in Goshen and hopefully it’ll never happen again.”
The 21-year-old injured in the incident is in stable condition.
No arrests have been made.
