Gov. Whitmer announces $325 Million Investment from Biden Administration expected to create 1,000 manufacturing jobs in Michigan
LANSING, Mich. (WILX) – Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced proposed funding from the Biden-Harris Administration to Michigan-based manufacturer Hemlock Semiconductor (HSC).
Governor Whitmer said the direct finding of $325 million will go towards building a new facility that is expected to support 180 manufacturing jobs and over a thousand construction jobs.
The proposed funding was made under the CHIPS and Science Act.
“Today, cutting-edge Michigan company Hemlock Semiconductor secured a proposed $325 million investment from the Biden-Harris administration to create 180 good-paying jobs and build a new facility to help make polysilicon, a critical material that’s found in nearly every electronic device in the world,” said Governor Whitmer. “HSC is one of many Michigan-based companies that is helping us lead the future of advanced manufacturing.”
Governor Whitmer said Hemlock Semiconductor is one of the largest producers of hyper-pure polysilicon and is the only one headquartered in America. The proposed production facility is expected to increase HSC’s manufacturing capacity to support the semiconductor supply chain in Michigan.
