Grafton open for business despite high river levels

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – The water levels of the Mississippi River are lapping up against the parking lot of the Loading Dock in Grafton but business is booming as the holiday weekend comes to a close.

“We’ve had a lot of calls throughout the day today and yesterday trying to figure out if we’re open and we’re open for business!” said Missy Struif with the Loading Dock, a popular restaurant in the Illinois river town.

According to NOAA, at 9:30 p.m. Sunday evening the river levels were above flood stage at 22.54. They are expected to rise a bit more but businesses like the Loading Dock say they shouldn’t rise to a level where it will impact business.

They are all keeping a close eye on the incoming rain from the remnants of Hurricane Beryl. It could impact river levels across the area.

Currently, the Grafton Ferry is closed due to high water levels.

“We came out to celebrate some birthdays in the family, but we couldn’t take our normal route because we knew we couldn’t take the ferry from St. Charles,” said Meggie Biesenthal, who was visiting Grafton on Sunday.
