Grass fire closes travel near Hwy. 65 & Garces Hwy., east of Delano

Bakersfield, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The Kern County Fire Department is responding to a grass fire at the intersection of Highway 65 and Garces Highway, according to the California Highway Patrol website.

Caltrans is working to set up a closure. CHP is diverting traffic at Sherwood Avenue, near Highway 65.

Travelling south on Highway 65, traffic is being diverted at Avenue 2 into Richgrove. County Line Road in Porterville is also being blocked off, according to the CHP traffic page.

The fire has started to cross over Garces Highway and is affecting power lines.

Drivers should avoid the area until further notice.
