Greater Wilmington Sports Hall of Fame announces inductees for Class of 2025

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – The Greater Wilmington Sports Hall of Fame has announced its Class of 2025.

The Hall of Fame weekend is May 16-18, and the induction ceremony is on May 18 at the Wilmington Convention Center.

The inductees for the class are the following:

  • Scott Braswell: A figure in high school football known for his transformative coaching career, beginning as an assistant at West Charlotte when he eventually led teams at Olympic High School and Hoggard High School to numerous championships. Braswell led Hoggard to a state championship in 2007 and has had a 220-94 record over 28 years, earning multiple Coach of the Year honors and other prestigious awards.
  • Kim Crabbe: The first African American woman to be called up to the U.S. Women’s National Team, she made her mark as a standout player with the Reston Rowdies and later at George Mason University where she helped secure a national championship in 1985. She played in the W-League and other various amateur teams. She is currently the Outreach Program Director at Wilmington Hammerheads FC and has already earned a place in the Virginia-D.C. Soccer Hall of Fame.
  • Tommy Craig: A certified athletic trainer in Major League Baseball, Tommy Craig of Wilmington played a pivotal role in back-to-back World Series victories in 1992 and 1993 with the Toronto Blue Jays. He also has worked with numerous Hall of Famers and was leading MLB in the man-hours lost to injuries for nine consecutive seasons. He has won multiple accolades, including the Dr. James Andrews Award for Excellence in Sports Medicine.
  • David Miller: An athletic professional with several advanced degrees, he was Associate Dean at the College of Arts and Sciences and Chair of the Department of Health, Physical Education, Recreation & Dance at Wilmington University. He also has had a forty-year career at UNCW as an assistant baseball coach, department chair, associate vice chancellor for academic affairs, enrollment manager and director of summer school.He has published several works on wellness and fitness.
  • Jerry Wainwright: Serving as the head basketball coach at UNCW, where he led the Seahawks to their first NCAA Tournament win and multiple conference titles. He has also won Gene Bartow Award for his contributions to basketball.
