Greenwich Entertainment Takes U.S. Rights To Doc ‘Happy Clothes: A Film About Patricia Field’ On Emmy-Winning Costume Designer

EXCLUSIVE: Greenwich Entertainment has acquired U.S. rights to Happy Clothes: A Film About Patricia Field, an award-winning documentary from Michael Selditch about the famed costume designer of the same name.

On the heels of its world premiere at the 2023 Tribeca Festival, the film will open at NYC’s IFC Center on September 20, with Selditch, Field and surprise guests in attendance for Q&As after select screenings. Release plans for additional major markets and home entertainment will be announced at a later date.

Happy Clothes offers a candid, fly-on-the-wall glimpse into the creative process and the extraordinary life and career of retailer, stylist and costume designer Patricia Field, whose unique vision has impacted fashion and popular culture for nearly six decades. As a two-time Emmy-winning costume designer, Field is best known for her work on Sex and the City. Her resume also boasts some 30 other television shows including Ugly Betty, Emily in Paris and Run the World, as well as over a dozen films, including The Devil Wears Prada, for which she was nominated for an Academy Award.

The doc features never-before-seen archival footage as well as interviews with collaborators Kim Cattrall, Lily Collins, Sarah Jessica Parker, Darren Star, Michael Urie, Vanessa Williams and many others.

“Patricia Field is a bit like downtown New York’s very own Coco Chanel as retailer and designer, inspired by and catering to the demi-monde of several eras, and already a legend before injecting her signature style into the zeitgeist of the last decades,” said Greenwich co-president Edward Arentz. “Michael offers up an enchanting profile, capturing her in action, her world, her sensibility, and her generosity of spirit, while peeling back the curtain on how the world’s most popular shows and movies of the last decade were costumed.”

Stated Selditch, “The producers and I are thrilled to be working with Ed and his team at Greenwich Entertainment to bring the story of this iconic visionary and indomitable creative force to a wide audience.”

Donald Zuckerman, Samuel J. Paul and Selditch produced the doc, with Lydia Tenaglia, Christopher Collins and Eugen Bräunig serving as co-producers. Luisa Law, Tricia Weber Youssi, Ryan Price, and Lori Zuckerman served as EPs, with Andrew Herwitz’s The Film Sales Company handling international sales.

Greenwich’s Arentz negotiated the acquisition with Herwitz on behalf of the filmmakers.
