There’s been radio silence on Greta Gerwig’s Narnia project at Netflix since the announcement that the Academy Award-nominated director behind Lady Bird, Little Women, and Barbie will helm two films based on C. S. Lewis’s The Chronicles of Narnia books for the streamer.
We have no cast and no release date, but we do now know that production will commence in July 2025, thanks to a new interview with Amy Pascal at Deadline.
Pascal described it as “A very new take on Narnia” and revealed that “it’s all about rock and roll.”
Rock and roll is not the typical association you’d make with the biblical tale, but when Greta Gerwig’s behind the camera, you trust her vision.
“I’ve never seen anything like [Greta],” Pascal tells Deadline. “I remember the first day I met her. She barged into my office and said, ‘Little Women has been done wrong, and I know how to do it right.’ It’s all about money and women. She hadn’t even made Lady Bird yet, and she said, ‘I’m going to write and direct that for you,’ and I said, ‘Alright’ because sometimes you know.”
While there are still no further details on the project, all you need to know is summarized by Pascal, who says, “There’s nobody like Greta”, and – with that in mind – we can expect magical things from this upcoming adaptation.
