Groundbreaking scheduled for Paducah Sports Park

PADUCAH, Ky. (KFVS) – The community is invited to attend a groundbreaking for the Paducah Sports Park.

According to a news release from the city, it will be on Monday, July 22 at 9 a.m. at the former Bluegrass Downs site, 150 Downs Drive.

The facility will be built at the former Bluegrass Downs site and Stuart Nelson Park. Its design includes five rectangular fields and four diamond-shaped fields that can be placed in a variety of ways and sizes. They say the multi-use, synthetic turf fields can be used for soccer, baseball, softball, rugby or football.

Other design features include a memorial complex for Dr. Stuart Nelson, shelter and restroom facilities, concession facilities, picnic and playground areas, as well as more parking.

The facility is expected to open in fall 2025.

County leaders say they hope the sports park will help make the Paducah-McCracken County area a regional destination for athletic tournaments.

With an expectation of holding 35 to 40 tournaments per year, the McCracken County Sports Tourism Commission estimated the facility could generate a local economic impact of approximately $130 million in its first five years of use.
