GTA 6 Will Slip To 2026 But Silksong Will Release This Year
Summary
- Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier has shared his gaming predictions for the year.
- He believes that GTA 6 will be delayed into next year so Rockstar can keep its promise to not crunch its workers.
- He also believes that Silksong will launch this year, following its announcement in 2019.
Journalist Jason Schreier has shared his predictions for the gaming industry in 2025, and it’s a mix of good and bad news for everyone. Writing in Bloomberg, he now believes that Grand Theft Auto 6 won’t make its scheduled 2025 release window, and will instead be pushed back into 2026.
However, he also believes that we’re going to get two huge industry-shattering news stories this year: Hollow Knight: Silksong‘s launch, and Half-Life 3’s announcement. If even one of these stories proves true, then this is going to be a huge year in gaming.
Jason Schreier Shares His Gaming Predictions For 2025
Bad news for GTA 6 fans, good news for everyone else
In his article, Schreier explains his reasoning for predicting that GTA 6 won’t be a 2025 release. “The next Grand Theft Auto is a huge and ambitious game, the pressure to make it great is inordinate and developer Rockstar Games has vowed to avoid forcing excessive overtime during the final months of development,” he says. “I expect that it will slip to 2026.”
If the delay is in aid of avoiding crunch, then that isn’t too surprising. Red Dead Redemption 2 was delayed, and even so, reportedly required developers to work excessive overtime to ship the game. With GTA 6 having so much riding on its success, it’ll need as much time in the oven as it can get.
However, if Schreier’s other predictions prove accurate, then 2025 is going to be a huge year. He feels that Silksong will, at long last, release this year, and sell very well. This would come about six years after its reveal, and a couple of years on from when we thought it might release in 2023, following its trailer at an Xbox showcase in 2022.
Other than this, Schreier also believes that 2025 will finally be the year that Half-Life 3 is confirmed, following on from rumours that the game is in development. The gaming community has waited so long for this that it’s become a running joke, so an actual official reveal would be a highlight of the year.
We’ll have to wait and see if these predictions amount to anything. Right now though, GTA 6 is still scheduled for 2025, Silksong has no release date, and Half-Life 3 only exists in our dreams.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is an upcoming title in the long-running series from Rockstar Games. Currently scheduled for a 2025 launch, details are few, although it appears to focus on a Bonnie-and-Clyde-like pair of characters.
