For D Gukesh’s dad it seemed to be the biggest day of his life. As Gukesh clinched the World Chess Champion spot on Thursday, a video of his dad walking restlessly in the corridor has grabbed everyone’s attention.
In the video, D Gukesh’s father Rajnikanth , an ENT surgeon, is waiting eagerly for the result. “Gukesh’s dad when he found out his son clinched the World Championship: pure disbelief, followed by unstoppable pride,” Government of India has shared the video on its Instagram account.

Gukesh earned the chess championship at the age of 18. With this he became the youngest one in the world to have achieved this rare feat. Born as Gukesh Dommaraju on May 29, 2006, he earned his grandmaster title at the age of 12. He studied at Velammal Vidyalaya school, Mel Ayanambakkam, Chennai.
On December 12, Gukesh defeated Ding Liren to become the World Chess Champion.
