Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport set to break holiday travel record this year

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – The world’s busiest airport is set to break travel records this holiday season.

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is set to welcome over 4.2 million passengers over the holiday travel period. the largest number in history.

Carolyn Hairscon and Sheridan Allen are used to the holiday traveling crowds.

Both said they plan ahead.

“What I do is to prep early. I pack early and I leave for the airport three hours early so I can catch my flight,” said Hariscon.

“Sometimes before the holiday comes, we can leave a day before. One or two days before to stay a little longer because we don’t want to be in the traffic,” said Allen.

Airport officials said Friday is expected to be the busiest day of the season.

Holiday travel season travel at Hartsfield-Jackson stretches from Nov. 21-Dec. 3.

Law enforcement officials said they’ve implemented additional safety measures to help combat an increase in car thefts.

“Right now, we’re testing out anti-tailgating technology. We’ve increased patrols. We’ve added fencing around some of our lots. We’ve added cameras and we’ve purchased two motorcycles,” said Maj. Kelly Collier with the Atlanta Police Department Airport Precinct.

If you’re traveling by car, AAA says the highways will be busy.

The agency said over 40,000 Georgians are set to hit the road this Thanksgiving.

“There’s a number of different factors of why we think this is going to be a record-setting holiday. Probably the most significant is the fact that gas prices are low,” Garrett Townsend, AAA spokesperson said.
