Harvey Weinstein to appear in court amid failing health
Harvey Weinstein is expected to be in court despite his failing health. The incarcerated producer will make it to court following the April 25 overturning of his 2020 sex crimes conviction.
There have, however, been rumours that Harvey might not make it to the court. The producer’s long-time spokesperson Juda Engelmayer told Deadline, “Mr. Weinstein entered prison with serious medical issues, and they have not magically disappeared, but are being managed.”
Harvey is currently suffering from diabetes, cardiac issues, sleep apnea, and who is also near blind.
Harvey is expected to be in court for the re-arraignment hearing at 100 Centre Street in Manhattan. His condition isn’t critical but he is under observation at Bellevue.
“Mr. Weinstein was visited yesterday by his attorneys Arthur Aidala and Diana Samson for several hours,” Engelmayer added. “Mr. Aidala confirms that Mr. Weinstein will be at his hearing on Wednesday and is looking forward to his day in court.”
Harvey Weinstein entered Bellevue Hospital Prison Ward over the weekend.
Meanwhile, the Appeals Court has ordered a new trial for Harvey Weinstein. Harvey however maintains that he is innocent.
“Weinstein remains in custody,” said Patrick Rocchio, NY Department of Corrections spokesperson.
“Mr. Weinstein remains in the capable hands of CHS at Bellevue Hospital where his various medical conditions are being monitored and tended to,” notes Craig Rothfeld, Weinstein’s prison consultant and authorised NYC DOCS & Correctional Health Services representative.
Harvey Weinstein was charged and arrested for rape in May 2018 after a New York Times report published in late 2017 detailed decades of abuse and alleged assaults by Weinstein. It was in 2020 when the producer was convicted on first-degree sexual assault and third-degree rape in the case of Mimi Haley and Jessica Mann.
