Head of Fitness Kornmayer To Depart at End of Season

Liverpool FC’s head of fitness and conditioning, Andreas Kornmayer, is set to depart after the conclusion of this season. The 49-year-old Bavarian is a familiar sight for fans and can often be seen putting the squad through its paces during their pre-game routines. He also had a striking resemblance to our manager, looking like Klopp’s mini-doppelganger with their similar-looking glasses.

Kornmayer was poached away from Bayern Munich in July 2016 and will end his eight-year tenure here. He follows a slew of expected backroom departures, including coaches Pepijn Lijnders, Peter Krawietz, Vitor Matos, and John Achterberg. Head of recovery and performance Andreas Schlumberger, who joined in 2020, is also expected to leave.

This leaves sporting director Richard Hughes and incoming coach Arne Slot with several backroom appointments this summer. Several of Slot’s colleagues from Feyenoord have already been confirmed: assistant Sipke Hulsoff, head of performance Ruben Peeters, and technical advisor Etienne Reijnen.
