If you’re heading out to Jeep Beach in Daytona Beach, the 10-day celebration of the famed SUV brand and the lifestyle it embraces, then you’ll likely be headed to one of numerous events at Daytona International Speedway.

Most notably, the iconic NASCAR track again will host the two-day Jeep Beach Main Event on April 26 and 27, an array of Jeep-related diversions in the Speedway’s massive infield that include offerings from an assortment of vendors and the opportunity to tackle the formidable Jeep Beach obstacle course.

If you’re new to the event or the destination, you might not realize that there’s another attraction well worth visiting just across International Speedway Boulevard.

One Daytona is a dining, retail and entertainment complex that also is hosting its own Jeep Beach event.

On Tuesday, April 23, One Daytona will present the “Jeep Beach Luau: A Tribute to the Legendary Jimmy Buffett.” Jeep fans are encouraged to wear their best tropical outfits for a gathering that features music from a well-known Jimmy Buffett tribute act, the Caribbean Chillers as well as Jeep Beach vendors, raffles, merchandise and kids’ club activities. It’s free admission.

Before you go, here’s what you need to know about One Daytona:

What is One Daytona?

Located at 1 Daytona Blvd., the complex is a “lifestyle and entertainment center” that was developed by NASCAR in 2016 to serve as a complement to its $400 million “Daytona Rising” makeover of the Speedway, a.k.a., “World Center of Racing.”

The 300,000-square-foot multiple building complex covers more than 70 acres and includes the 12-screen CMX Daytona Luxury 12 Theatres, two hotels, luxury apartments, a Bass Pro Shops store, and an array of restaurants, shops and entertainment venues.

The “Victory Circle” area includes a stage for live music, outdoor seating, and a kids-splash area surrounded by The Daytona Marriott Autograph Collection hotel and several eateries.

One Daytona Boulevard is a several block promenade that leads from the entertainment/retail complex’s main entrance off West International Speedway Boulevard north to the CMX movie theater.

The complex also has an outdoor Fit Park sponsored by AdventHealth.

One Daytona includes the eight-story International Motorsports Center office building where NASCAR has its headquarters.

Next door is another NASCAR-owned retail center, the Shoppes at One Daytona on the northwest corner of West International Speedway Boulevard and Bill France Boulevard, which offers more restaurants and stores.

One Daytona connected to the Speedway

One Daytona offers two pedestrian overpasses that connect directly to the Speedway across the street. The western-most overpass includes the iconic “Welcome to Daytona Beach” sign and is next to Bass Pro Shops. The newer overpass to the east is near the ISB entrance to The Shoppes.

It was built with help from local taxpayers

NASCAR spent more than $100 million to build the shopping, dining and entertainment portions of the One Daytona complex as well as to revamp the existing The Shoppes retail center next door.

Local taxpayers also chipped $40 million, half from the City of Daytona Beach and half from Volusia County, to help pay for infrastructure improvements such as new roads and electric, water and sewer lines. The property was once a General Electric plant that closed in the early 1990s.

The public/private partnership’s goal was to create new jobs and transform what was an under-utilized aging property into a year-round attraction to appeal to both locals and visitors. Some of the restaurants and stores at One Daytona were the first Volusia County locations for national chains.

Restaurants and shops (with the exception of the newly opened Costco) charge customers a 1% “enhanced amenity fee” for purchases made at One Daytona to help offset some of NASCAR’s investment. The money, which is privately collected by NASCAR, does not go to either the city or county.

Costco is newest addition to One Daytona

Four days after the Daytona 500, on Feb. 22, One Daytona welcomed its newest store: a Costco Wholesale member warehouse club located west of the CMX movie theater, north of the parking lot for Bass Pro Shops.

The store’s opening was celebrated at a ribbon-cutting  with members of the Daytona Regional Chamber of Commerce.

A members-only Costco gas station had previously opened Feb. 1 directly south of the Costco club store.
