Heartland job candidates make connections at NEMO job fair
KIRKSVILLE, Mo. — The Kirksville Job Center hosted their annual spring job fair Friday at the Moberly Area Community College (MACC).
It was a chance for those looking for a job or a change in employment to make connections and first impressions with potential employers.
35 Heartland businesses and employment resources showed up to speak with job seekers and help them find their professional match.
There were plenty of job seekers as well; almost 70 people looking for employment showed up within the first hour.
Employers could interview candidates on the spot, a feature of the event that Marie Murphree, Executive Director of the Kirksville Area Chamber of Commerce, greatly appreciated.
“One of the best things that the job fair offers is the person’s ability to immediately be seen by the employer,” Murphree said. “I can’t say enough about face-to-face interactions, because that a lot of times can get somebody the job, when if they were to just send a resume in online, it may not hit the right person at the right time.”
The job fair provided plenty of networking opportunities, not just for employers and job seekers, but for organizations like the chamber of commerce and the job center.
“Building those connections with the employers and having them all in one place helps us make them aware of other services the chamber can provide to them,” Murphree said. “Having the employers here in one place helps us make sure that they’re aware that this is a service that we can offer to them. That’s part of our job as the chamber, making sure that we’re providing resources to our employers to help them do their jobs better.”
If you weren’t able to attend Friday’s job fair, there will be another in this upcoming fall.
