Henrico Sports & Entertainment Authority bringing holiday cheer to kids through sports
HENRICO, Va. (WWBT) – The holidays are here and local organizations across Central Virginia are embracing the season of giving.
For the second year, Henrico Sports and Entertainment Authority is playing a part to make some children’s Christmas morning extra special.
The Salvation Army made the call, and gifts are donated every year for children across the Greater Richmond area, but sometimes gifts for boys and girls 10-16 years old are overlooked.
Now, Henrico Sports and Entertainment Authority is using sports to fill the gap.
The donated items include: footballs, basketballs, soccer balls, and tennis brackets.
“So, then that’s why you see some very age-appropriate type of sports equipment for that age range. We want young people to try sports out. You never know where that’s going to go,” Henrico Sports and Entertainment Authority executive director Dennis Bickmeier said.
Thanks to donations from people in the community, the organization is turning some kid’s wishes into reality
“We want young people to dream big. We want to be able to have a healthy community. Sports provides that, it teaches kids sportsmanship and teamwork and all those things. So, if you can put a ball in a kid’s hand or a bat in a kid’s hand to try baseball, whatever sport that might be, who knows where those dreams could go,” Bickmeier said.
All items will be packed up and taken to the salvation army to fulfill angel tree wishes.
