Henry County unveils new outdoor fitness court to promote community health and wellness

Henry County officials just launched something new in hopes of taking health and fitness in the area to the next level.

On Monday, Henry County held a ribbon cutting for a brand new outdoor fitness center at the Monogram Foods Smith River Sports Complex on Irrisburg Road.

This is all thanks to a partnership with the National Fitness Campaign, sponsored by Aetna. This Fitness Court was developed to expand free access to high-quality workouts and create equitable access to exercise for communities around the state. The Fitness Court is the world’s best outdoor gym that lets people use their own body weight to get a complete workout using seven exercise stations.

You can do everything from push-ups, to box jumps, core exercises, squats and more. And the great thing about it is that it’s completely free.

“Something like this will hopefully inspire people to come out and light the fire. I mean this is not going to be an all-in-all solution, but if it lights the fire, more people come out and participate. Hopefully, this will lead to them finding other ways along with this to work on their physical health,” said Garrett Dillard, Iriswood District Supervisor.

The Fitness Court is open for people 14 years old and over and is made for all fitness levels.
