Here’s how U.S. News & World Report ranked Tallahassee, Florida high schools

play

U.S. News & World Report’s Best High School rankings for Florida lists three Tallahassee high schools in the top 100.

Across the state, 647 schools were ranked by the media company based on students’ math and reading proficiencies on state assessments, graduation rates, socioeconomic backgrounds, and Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate exams.

AP and IB exams account for college readiness data in the assessment, which is most heavily weighted at 30%, to determine a school’s rank.

Also, the rankings assessed how successful schools were at educating all students, including those from low-income backgrounds, based on state assessment performances.

Best known for its prestigious and sometimes contentious college rankings, the publisher began ranking high schools in 2007.

The top five Florida High Schools in 2024 are:

  1. Pine View School in Sarasota County Schools
  2. Millennium 6-12 Collegiate Academy in Broward County Schools
  3. Westshore Junior/Senior High School in Brevard Public Schools
  4. Archimedean Upper Conservatory Charter School in Miami Dade County Public Schools
  5. Stanton College Preparatory School in Duval County Public Schools

56. Lawton Chiles High School – (69 last year)

87. Florida State University High School – (109 last year)

Florida schools in fifth place in state rankings

Florida schools scored well overall in the rankings.

“A breakdown by state of the 2024 U.S. News & World Report Best High Schools rankings shows that Massachusetts is once again the leading performer,” according to the publisher.

“This state-by-state performance comparison is solely based on which states have the largest proportion of their high schools in the top 25% of the 2024 Best High Schools rankings. This year, 43.9%, or nearly half, of Massachusetts’ eligible high schools were in the top 25% of the rankings. Connecticut came in second with 42.9% of its schools in the top 25%, New Jersey in third with 42.1%, Maryland in fourth with 39% and Florida in fifth place with 37.4%.”
