High school football players participate in Florida Citrus Sports media day

ORLANDO, Fla. – High school football players across Central Florida are getting the chance to be part of Florida Citrus Sports’ High School Football Media Day.

“This is an opportunity to really kick off the high school season with these young people telling their story about the work they put in. Who they are as players. Who they are as a team and what they mean to their community,” Dan LaForest said.

La Forest, a licensed sports agent and wealth advisor, said the timing for this event could not be better since the Florida Board of Education is allowing high school athletes to profit off their name, image, and likeness better known as NIL.

“Well I think it’s a great opportunity for a lot of athletes to get their names out there because I know in the past colleges weren’t doing NIL and a lot of players were losing money, essentially,” David Moore said.

Moore is going to be a junior at the new Innovation High School near Lake Nona.

His team is getting ready for their first football game in a few weeks, something his dad, Damon, is looking forward to.

“When we talk about things like NIL, we’re not just talking about the present success, we are talking about the future success,” Moore said.

State officials said there are rules when it comes NIL such as hiring agents and receiving awards unapproved by the athletic association.

“For us the finance part is important but, in our house, we talk about legacy and so if he earns a dollar, there’s going to be 50 cents invested for his future so it’s not just the stuff that he can have, it’s for his future and that’s what’s important for our family,” Moore said.

More high school football players are set to participate on Friday and Saturday at Camping World Stadium.
