Claremont High School

Boys football (3-4)
The Pack is currently on a three-game losing streak following a 7-3 loss at Alta Loma on September 20 and losses to Sierra League opponents Charter Oak, 43-3 on October 4, and Bonita, 26-7 on October 11. League action continued after press time Thursday against Glendora at Citrus College Stadium, followed by 7 p.m. home tests with Colony on October 25 and its homecoming game against Los Osos November 1. As of press time Thursday, Claremont sits fifth in league with an 0-2 record, and a 3-4 overall. Hopes of reaching California Interscholastic Federation-Southern Section playoffs remain but the team must win its next three games. Divisions will be determined by CIF-SS. Brackets go live at cifss.org at 10 a.m. November 3.

Girls flag football (3-5)
The team capped its debut season with an 18-0 away loss at Glendora on Monday. The Wolfpack placed fourth in Palomares League play with a 1-5 league record, 3-5 overall, and will learn if it made the playoffs when brackets go live at cifss.org at 9 a.m. on October 19.

Boys water polo (9-15)
The team was the sixth seed heading into the Palomares League tournament and lost, 11-10, at Glendora, in the opening round Tuesday against the third-place seed Tartans. Claremont will play fifth-seeded Ayala at 5:30 p.m. October 23 at Bonita to cement a place as either the fifth or sixth Palomares League finishers. The team holds a 1-5 league record and a 9-15 overall as of press time Thursday and will not see playoff action this year.

Girls golf (10-4)
So far, Arcadia; Walnut, twice; and Diamond Bar have been able to best the Pack, all others have fallen. On Tuesday, Claremont lost, 203-205, against Diamond Bar at Marshall Canyon, leaving them at 6-3 and in second place in Palomares League as of press time Thursday. The team rematched the Brahmas in Diamond Bar after press time Thursday to cap league play. The Wolfpack holds a 10-4 overall and will qualify for the CIF team finals. Brackets will be posted by noon October 26 at cifss.org. Palomares League individual prelims will be held on October 21 at Jurupa Hills Golf Course and finals are October 22 at Santa Anita Golf Course.

Girls tennis (9-0)
With new coach Ellen Matson, Claremont has yet to taste defeat and holds an 8-0 Palomares League record and a 9-0 overall. The team hosted Glendora Tuesday and won 17-1. Ayala came by after press time Thursday and the team will cap league play on October 22 with a 3 p.m. home game versus Diamond Bar. The Wolfpack will learn its postseason fate when CIF-SS brackets go live at 11 a.m. on November 4 at cifss.org. Palomares League singles and doubles prelims will be held on October 28 at CHS, and finals are October 29 at The Claremont Club.

Girls volleyball (11-17-1)
Claremont went to and beat Diamond Bar, 3-2, on Tuesday and the teams tied for third place in the Palomares League. Although the Pack holds an even 5-5 league record, the team’s 11-17-1 overall puts it out of reach of a playoff spot.

Boys and girls cross-country
At the Palomares League Preview Meet on September 13 at Ayala Park, the boys placed fifth at 125 points and the girls took second with 51 points. Teams will compete at the 76th annual Mt. San Antonio College Cross-Country Invitational on October 25. Palomares League finals will be held on November 8 at Ayala Park. Results from the ASICS Cool Breeze, 2024 Iolani, Chaffey, and ASICS Clovis invitationals, and Woodbridge Classic are at athletic.net.

The Webb Schools

Boys football (1-5)
The Gauls have enjoyed just one victory this season, a 28-14 nonleague win at Loara High School on September 13. Webb recorded two Cottonwood League losses in October, but the team hopes to change its luck at Santa Rosa Academy during a 7 p.m. game on October 19. Playoff dreams are still possible. The team must win Saturday, as well as its 1 p.m. home contest with Riverside Prep on October 26 and its 3:30 p.m. November 1 home game with Temecula Prep. As of press time Thursday, Webb is sixth in league with an 0-2 record and 1-5 overall.

Boys water polo (12-9)
In its first season as an independent team, Webb has recorded 12 wins and nine losses, with the most recent result being an 11-8 home victory over Mark Keppel on October 10. Webb’s best chance of making the postseason for an at-large spot comes down to its ability to finish at or above an even record. Webb competes in the Santa Ana Valley Tournament October 18-19, then hosts 3:30 p.m. games against California High School on October 22, and then Aquinas on October 23. CIF-SS will determine Webb’s division should it make the playoffs before brackets go live at cifss.org at 2 p.m. October 25.

Girls golf (9-2)
Webb has only lost to Fairmont Prep, 231-242 and 228-236 on September 18 and 24, respectively, and sits in second place in the San Joaquin League with a 7-2 record, and 9-2 overall. The team hosted Vista Meridian at Marshall Canyon after press time Thursday. San Joaquin League prelims will be held at Recreation Park Golf Course in Long Beach on October 22, and finals will be at Skylinks at Long Beach on October 23. The Gauls will learn its team playoff fate by noon on October 26 when brackets are posted at cifss.org.

Girls tennis (8-5)
Despite nonleague struggles, Webb has shown up in San Joaquin League play. Webb holds a 6-1 league record, 8-5 overall, as of press time Thursday. The team’s sole loss in league was an 11-7 defeat at home against Fairmont Prep on October 3. Webb faced Western Christian at The Claremont Club after press time Thursday. The Gauls then travel to Fairmont Prep for a 1 p.m. game on October 21; host Pacifica Christian on October 23 at 3:30 p.m.; then welcome Segerstrom at 3:15 p.m. October 25. San Joaquin League singles and doubles prelims are at Orange Coast College on October 28, and finals are at Webb on October 30. The Gauls will learn their postseason fate when CIF-SS brackets go live at 11 a.m. on November 4 at cifss.org.

Girls volleyball (6-13)
Despite a decent showing in Academy League play where Webb finished fourth overall with a 3-5 league record, it’s been a rough season. The Gauls capped the season with a 3-1 home loss against Samueli Academy on October 10 and, with a 6-13 overall, will not see playoff action this year.

Boys and girls cross-country
The boys finished second overall at the first San Joaquin League cluster on September 12 at home while the girls took fifth. Scores were not made available to the Courier. The boys bested Education First Academy and Montclair at a home meet on October 9. The girls did not compete. Scores were not made available. Next up is the 76th annual Mt. San Antonio College Cross-Country Invitational on October 25, then San Joaquin League finals on November 6 at Mason Park.
