CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Residents and travelers in southeast Wyoming should prepare for another round of high winds this weekend, with gusts potentially exceeding 60 mph, creating hazardous conditions for light and high-profile vehicles.

The National Weather Service in Cheyenne has issued a high wind watch for much of southeast Wyoming, including Cheyenne, Torrington, Wheatland and Pine Bluffs, effective from late Saturday night through Sunday evening. West winds are expected to reach sustained speeds of 30–40 mph, with gusts of up to 60 mph. These conditions are likely to impact travel on Interstate 25 and I-80, especially in wind-prone areas such as Bordeaux and the I-80 Summit.

For today, sunny skies are expected, with a high near 49. Winds will be breezy, increasing to 10–20 mph from the west before shifting to the south-southwest in the afternoon. Tonight, conditions will become mostly clear with a low near 29; gusts could reach up to 35 mph.

Sunday brings a mix of sunshine and strong winds, with a high near 45. West winds are forecast to sustain speeds of 35–40 mph, decreasing slightly in the afternoon but still gusting at up to 55 mph. Overnight, winds will remain gusty, with a low around 21.

Monday will offer sunny skies and calmer winds, with a high near 43. However, the break may be brief, as strong winds are forecast to return Tuesday, accompanied by a cold front that could bring snow and additional travel concerns west of the Laramie Range.

The NWS in Cheyenne warns that this weekend’s winds may extend beyond the usual wind-prone areas, creating more widespread impacts. Travelers are urged to plan carefully, monitor WYDOT road conditions and prepare for potential delays or road closures.
