Holiday Travel in Bay County
BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – This time of year everyone meets up to spend time with family and share stories over a good meal. This is why the days leading into Thanksgiving and the Sunday after are typically the busiest times of the year for travelers.
Heading into Thanksgiving week, ECP officials expected big crowds to fill the terminals.
Officials increased their shuttle activity to be better prepared for the busy weekend.
Before Thanksgiving, the parking lot was filled forcing officials to open the overflow lot.
While the Sunday after Thanksgiving was expected to be the busiest day of the year, airline officials at ECP said it was steady.
A man traveling from New York said he enjoyed the intimate setting of ECP after flying through other airports.
“The Houston airport is super busy,” said Nicholas Osika, a passenger from Buffalo, New York. “There isn’t a place to sit down in that airport at this time of year. This is a blessing really. To be in the sunshine state and to actually be able to breathe in here and hear yourself think. it’s pretty nice.”
While airport officials may not have seen the foot traffic they expected to see, the parking lot is still full so are expecting a rush.
