Holiday travel increases by millions

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) -With a projection of nearly 8 million Americans flying this holiday season, residents might want to get to the airport the suggested 2 hours early to beat those infamous TSA lines.

According to AAA, travel expenses have increased this year by 4%, with domestic tickets averaging more than $800 and international tickets at nearly $1700.

By car,107 million people are expected to be on the road nationwide, which is 2.5 million more than last year.

In the NCFL region, Saturday is projected to be peak congestion for traffic between Gainesville and hotspot locations like Tampa, Orlando, and Miami.

Remember to drive refreshed, pull over if need be, follow speed limits, and give the right of way to first responders. Happy holidays North Central Florida!
