Holiday travel period ends with higher gas prices in Michigan
DEARBORN, Mich. (WLUC) – As the extended Thanksgiving holiday travel period comes to an end Monday, drivers in Michigan are seeing a slight jump in the price of gas.
According to AAA of Michigan, the state average is up 7 cents from a week ago. Drivers statewide are now paying an average of $3.08 per gallon for regular unleaded gas. Despite the latest increase, that price is still 11 cents less than this time last month, and 4 cents less than this time last year. The national average sits 3 cents lower than the state, at $3.05 per gallon.
Motorists are paying an average of $46 for a full 15-gallon tank of gasoline; a discount of about $12 from 2023′s highest price last August. Howard Hughey, Public Affairs Director, AAA-The Auto Club Group. “If demands drops after the holiday, gas prices could possibly follow suit.”
Around Upper Michigan, the lowest average is in Menominee County at $2.81 per gallon. The highest is in Chippewa County at $3.26 per gallon.
