Holiday travel traffic at Tweed New Haven Airport
NEW HAVEN, CT (WFSB) – Cars were lined up and down the streets trying to get into Tweed New Haven Airport on Saturday.
With Christmas just four days away, people are picking up family and friends from the airport.
Many people said they have been waiting over an hour to get up to the arrival area of Tweed.
Tweed recently expanded to Breeze Airlines, which invited more traffic into the area.
However, Breeze only had one flight each way scheduled for Saturday.
A Tweed Airport official said aside from the busyness of holiday travel, some departures were slowed down due to snow and ice on the planes.
They also said some flights were held up waiting for passengers to make it on the plane.
Joe Dasilva’s parents had already endured a delayed flight and were now waiting for him to get through the traffic at Tweed.
“We fly in and out of Tweed all the time and this is like nothing I’ve ever seen. We’ve been waiting over an hour and now we’re just stuck in this dead lock,” Dasilva said.
Hundreds of thousands of people in CT are expected to fly this holiday season.
The year end holiday travel period is from December 21 through the first of the year.
