HOLMDEL – Two people were taken to a hospital, and a food business was shut down for a structural evaluation, after a two-car collision Saturday propelled one of the vehicles into the building, police said.
Police responded to the incident near Holmdel Road at 10:30 a.m. and learned that a Tesla being driven eastbound on Main Street crossed the center line and struck a westbound Honda Accord before striking a building at 37 Main St., the township police department said on its Facebook page.
The building houses Il Mercato, an Italian grocery and catering business. Police said the driver of the Tesla suffered a medical emergency just before the crash.
Both drivers were taken to Bayshore Medical Center for treatment of injuries not believed to be life threatening, police said. They did not identify the motorists.
The business was temporarily closed by the township construction official, pending a structural evaluation.
Police are asking anyone who may have information about the incident to contact Patrolwoman Maeve Cosgrove at 732-946-4400, ext. 18118.
