Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek’s network of contributors
Home Improvement actor Zachery Ty Bryan was arrested for domestic violence.
According to TMZ, police responded to a domestic issue at a Myrtle Beach, South Carolina residence on Wednesday, January 1. Bryan, 43, has been charged with second-degree domestic violence, with his current bail being set at $10,000.
The outlet claims the actor, who played Tim Allen’s son on the popular ’90s series, was involved in a physical fight. In Bryan’s mugshot, he has clear bruises and marks on his face. His right cheek has a significant wound.
This is also not Bryan’s first encounter with the police. In May 2020, Bryan pleaded guilty to a DUI and was sentenced to five years of probation, per Us Weekly.
In October 2020, Bryan was arrested in Oregon for a federal strangulation charge after an incident with a woman named Johnnie Faye Cartwright, per The Hollywood Reporter. Sources also claimed to the outlet that Bryan had stolen their money through a fraudulent startup scheme, allegedly close to a total of $50,000.
“At the end of the day, [the police] throw a bunch of counts at you because they ultimately want you to plead to something,” Bryan told the outlet in 2023. “I could’ve fought it — but that’s more stress and drama.”
Bryan was arrested in Oregon again in July 2023. He was charged with felony assault, as he violated the Abuse Prevention Act — allegedly assaulting someone who had previously been granted a restraining order against Bryan, according to Deadline.
Then, in February 2024, Bryan was arrested for suspected of driving under the influence in California. He was arrested again in October 2024 for a second DUI in Oklahoma, according to Deadline.
In 2023, Allen, 71, spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about his thoughts regarding Bryan’s arrest and life choices.
“All you can do is step aside and let somebody go through their process,” Allen said. “At a certain point, he deviated from the guy I know to somebody who is reacting to situations that I had nothing to do with and can’t control… I don’t know what happens when people get corrupted. You just don’t know.”
