A homeless woman in Leesburg was arrested when an officer found her asleep with a glass pipe and methamphetamine in a shopping center parking lot.
An officer spotted 39-year-old Tina Louise Kasson lying in front of a closed business within the South Side Shopping Center, located at 1319 S. 14th Street, around 11:37 p.m. Monday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.
While approaching Kasson, who appeared to be asleep, the officer observed a clear glass pipe commonly used to the consumption of narcotics in her hand. He woke her up, and she tried to hide the pipe while grabbing other items around her. The clear glass pipe contained burnt narcotics residue, leading to her being handcuffed, the report said.
During a search incident to arrest, the officer found a clear plastic baggie with a clear crystalline substance inside. It tested positive for methamphetamine and weighed 1.2 grams, the report said.
Kasson was charged with possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia (possess or use). The Arizona native was transported to Lake County Jail with bond set at $3,500.
