HOMETOWN ENTERTAINMENT: Singer-songwriter Lindsay Lou to perform tonight at the Jefferson Center
ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – For the last year, Lindsay Lou has been touring to promote her album, “Queen of Time.”
Lou says the album title is a bit tongue and cheek for her, admitting time management isn’t her biggest strength
The title song, she says, is more about self-reflection.
“Always going through changing times and challenging times are the ones that show us who we are the most,” says Lou.
Lou says she grew up in a musical family, always singing and performing.
In college, she was a human biology major.
“I was an undergraduate assistant in a lab that studied plant adaptation and evolution. And I was making the same amount of no money as an undergraduate assistant as I was as a touring bluegrass musician,” says Lou.
Music eventually won out, and Lou began recording music and touring with the bluegrass band, The Flatbellys.
As a musician, she says she still thinks like a scientist.
“You know, science and art are not so dissimilar,” she explains.
Lou’s musical influences include artists ranging from
Bill Monroe to Emmylou Harris.
Lou will perform Friday night at the Jefferson Center.
She says the audience should expect a mix of sounds.
“I’ll be playing songs that I love, traditional songs, maybe some bluegrass songs, maybe some folk songs, a lot of songs that I’ve written and recorded,” says Lou.
The concert at the Jefferson Center kicks off tonight at 8.
