HOMETOWN ENTERTAINMENT: “The Woman in Black” to take stage at Showtimers Community Theatre

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – Looking for something spooky to get you into the Halloween spirit this month?

Showtimers Community Theatre will soon present its production of “The Woman in Black.”

“It’s creepy, spooky and gets weirder and weirder,” says director Jessie McKeown.

That certainly sets the eerie tone.

Showtimers’ latest show, “The Woman in Black” is set in England in the early 1900s.

“It’s the story of the lawyer, Arthur Kipps, who goes out to the moors on the coast of England to close out the estate of Mrs. Alice Drablow. The supernatural chaos that ensues,” says McKeown.

As the story goes, Arthur Kipps enlists a young actor to coach him in retelling the story that’s haunted him since visiting that estate.

“I am the actor to help the lawyer tell the story,” says performer Blake Hill.

The set features authentic furniture, accessories, old photos and plenty of interesting characters.

“My character is a very brief kind of like blurb in the story with sort of this priest voice that kind of happens in a specific point in the show,” says performer Jake Dellinger.

And in true community theatre tradition, the show is a family affair.

“While the set is minimal, there’s a lot of stuff that needed to happen, so my husband helped pitch in. My soon to be three year old daughter got to do some painting,” says performer Lincoln Sklar.

As it all comes together, the cast says to prepare for a creepy night at the theatre.
