Honkai: Star Rail will go all in on Greek mythology in the world

Between Fortnite and Hades 2, 2024 has been a solid year for games inspired by Greek Mythology. Now, the next game to hop on the trend is the sci-fi adventure Honkai: Star Rail.

In February 2024, developer Hoyoverse released the 2.0 update for Honkai: Star Rail and added the world of Penacony. Since then, the game has largely focused on adventures set in this dreamlike world. However, that’s about to change. Hoyoverse confirmed that the forthcoming 2.7 update will be the last patch before the members of the Astral Express finally journey to a new world: Amphoreus. A teaser trailer released as part of the 2.7 livestream program on Friday revealed a first look at this world and showed this new location will be inspired by Greek mythology.

The teaser trailer didn’t show any gameplay, but instead tells a mythic story about the origin of Amphoreus with art styled to emulate the look of Athenian vase paintings. For a while, the narrator talks about how the world started as chaos, but then the gods cast down the “Coreflames,” and the Titans were born. From there, we’re introduced to several characters in this saga, like a “three-faced messenger” who traverses through a myriad of doors or the daughter of the River Styx. In the end, the trailer also shows a brief look at the return of Herta and her new 5-star form.

It’s easy to get ahead of ourselves, but there’s one more patch until the storyline around Amphoreus kicks off in the 3.0 update. That said, it’s not as if there isn’t anything to look forward to in 2.7. The next patch will finally welcome the return of the villainous (and gorgeous) leader of Penacony, Sunday.
