Houston announces entertainment lineup for holiday-themed celebration | Houston Public Media
‘Tis the season for the City of Houston’s holiday-themed celebration.
The Reliant Lights Mayor’s Holiday Spectacular is scheduled for 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7 in Hermann Square at City Hall. This 105th celebration is free and open to the public.
Festivities will include a performance by LeToya Luckett, a two-time Grammy Award winner and founding member of Destiny’s Child. RaeLynn, a two-time nominee for the Academy of Country Music’s new female vocalist award, is expected to co-headline the show.
Houston Mayor John Whitmire said he plans to bring his grandchildren to the holiday spectacle and urges families to join in on the festivities.
“Each year is special, but I think this year is very special because we’ve had our storms,” Whitmire said. “We had the Kingwood flooding; we all survived the election.”
He continued to add that he is grateful to be the mayor of Houston, having been elected in December 2023.
“So, I just think it’s a great opportunity to celebrate the success of this year and get excited about 2025,” Whitmire said.
Susan Christian, the director of special events for the mayor’s office, said nearly 15,000 attendees are expected. Santa Claus will be in attendance and available for pictures. The event also will have a gingerbread village filled with refreshments, sponsors and vendors.
Christian said at the end of the evening there’s going to be a tree lighting and fireworks show.
“Our big 48-foot-tall tree will be lit, of course,” Christian said. “That’s about 100,000 lights on it as well as all the perimeter oaks are going to be lit in an incredible lighting.”
